Evidence-based guides for healthcare providers to help patients quit tobacco and live their healthiest lives!
Are you wondering how to choose the best smoking cessation medication for your patient or how to talk to someone about smoking triggers? Maybe you are struggling to talk to patients about their tobacco use during a busy office visit? We’ve got you covered!
The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program recently released an Essential Tobacco Treatment Toolkit. These free, downloadable guides were expertly curated by our staff to support impactful, evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment for patients and populations. While not designed to be an exhaustive collection, this Toolkit contains a selection of resources for both healthcare professionals and patients.
Our resources for healthcare professionals include a medical decision making tool, which offers steps on picking the best pharmacotherapy based on patient characteristics, medication dosing charts, and information on appropriate treatment length, as well as pre-quit and extended treatment plans. Our 3 A’s tool reviews motivational interviewing techniques that can be used in a 15-minute office visit to talk to patients about tobacco cessation. Our tools geared toward patients use a worksheet format, covering topics such as managing smoking urges, mindful smoking, and building motivation by assessing strengths and challenges to quitting.
