PAYMENT POLICIES

Payment for all courses must be made in full BEFORE the course begins.

By Credit Card: Payment can be made online via our secure payment system. A 3.5% convenience fee will apply to all transactions over $5,000.

By ACH/Check: Organizations that wish to pay by check must make arrangements with our office BEFORE registration. Please contact our office at cttsprogram@duke.edu or 919-668-5042.

CANCELLATION POLICY--TTS TRAININGS

The following outlines the cancellation and refund policy for all registration fees associated with the Duke–UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program Comprehensive TTS Trainings.

More than 30 days from the start date: If a registration is cancelled more than 30 business days before the start date of the program, the participant will be charged a $50 cancellation fee and will either be granted a refund for remainder of the registration fees or will have the option to transfer the amount paid less cancellation fee towards a future training. In the event that a future training has a higher registration fee, the participant will be responsible for covering the difference in cost.

Within 30 days of the start date: If a registration is cancelled within 30 days of the start date of the program, the participant will be charged a $100 cancellation fee and will either be granted a refund for the remainder of the registration fees or will have the option to transfer the amount paid less cancellation fee towards a future training. In the event that a future training has a higher registration fee, the participant will be responsible for covering the difference in cost.

Within 7 days of the start date or no shows: If a registration is cancelled within 7 days of the start date of the program or if the participant does not attend the training, no refund will be granted. Additionally, no transfers to future trainings will be allowed.

Note about Substitutions: Substitutions must be approved by a course director. There will be a $50 fee charged for each substitution.

The following outlines the cancellation and refund policy for all registration fees associated with Duke–UNC TTS CE Short Courses.

More than 30 days from the start date: If a registration is cancelled more than 30 business days before the start date of the program, the participant will be charged a $25 cancellation fee and will either be granted a refund for remaining registration fees or will have the option to transfer the amount paid less cancellation fee towards a future training. In the event that a future training has a higher registration fee, the participant will be responsible for covering the difference in cost.

Within 30 days from the start date: If a registration is cancelled within 30 days from the start date of the program, the participant will be charged a $50 cancellation fee and will either be granted a refund for the remainder of the registration fees or will have the option to transfer the amount paid less cancellation fee towards a future training. TOBACCO-FREE POLICY FOR TTS TRAINING PARTICIPANTS

The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) Training Program is committed to supporting individuals who are passionate about helping others quit tobacco and improve their health. Many of our participants bring valuable personal experience with tobacco use and cessation, and we recognize the important perspective that lived experience contributes to tobacco treatment practice.

Because the TTS training explores nicotine addiction, tobacco use, cravings, withdrawal, relapse, and treatment approaches in considerable depth, participants spend many hours discussing and reflecting on tobacco-related topics. For individuals who are currently using tobacco or early in their quit journey, this intensive focus may be challenging and, in some cases, may increase cravings or make it more difficult to maintain their tobacco-free goals.

For this reason, the Duke-UNC TTS Program asks participants who have a history of tobacco use to be tobacco-free for at least six months before enrolling. This guideline is intended to promote participant well-being and help ensure that learners are able to fully engage with the training while maintaining a tobacco-free lifestyle.

The six-month guideline reflects our experience, as well as standards used by many tobacco treatment training and certification programs. While each person's journey is unique, six months often provides time to become more established and confident in maintaining a tobacco-free lifestyle before participating in a training devoted entirely to tobacco dependence treatment.

We rely on participant self-attestation and trust learners to determine whether they meet this guideline. If you have recently quit tobacco and are unsure whether this training is right for you at this time, we encourage you to consider your goals and circumstances carefully. Our intention is not to create barriers to participation, but rather to support your success and help ensure that you are able to gain the greatest benefit from the program.

GRIEVANCE POLICY

We thank you for your participation in the Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program. We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable educational environment and learning experience for all individuals.

This policy outlines the process to aid resolution of any conflicts and disagreements that may arise among individuals in the Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program. This policy extends to include concerns and any grievances regarding registration, training, learning environment, trainers, co-trainees, certification, or recertification.

Procedure for Grievance

Individuals who feel there has been any inappropriate action taken by faculty, students, or event coordinators may submit complaints or file grievance with the program coordinator within 30 calendar days of the completion of the course to:

You will receive a receipt of filed grievance within 72 hours. Every effort will be made to expedite resolution of conflict; however, based on the nature of the grievance, there may be additional investigation required, which can take up to 14 business days following receipt of grievance.

If satisfactory resolution is not reached, you will have 30 days to appeal in writing to the below representatives from our two partner institutions.
