The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) Training Program offers a comprehensive, evidence-based curriculum designed for medical, behavioral, and public health professionals. The program combines the latest research on pharmacotherapy and tobacco dependence counseling with practical guidance on running a practice. Participants engage in interactive virtual sessions and self-paced online modules, earning up to 30 continuing education hours. Accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs, the training covers all core competencies required for national certification. The program aims to equip professionals with the skills needed to provide effective tobacco treatment and support for individuals seeking to quit tobacco use and live healthier lives.
Program Accreditation
The Duke-UNC TTS Program is fully accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs, and the training provides education in all core competencies for tobacco treatment specialists as set forth by the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD).
National Certification
There are several pathways to national certification as a tobacco treatment professional. Completion of the Duke-UNC TTS training program fulfills the training requirement for any of these pathways; other requirements, such as an exam and/or CE hours, may be required to complete and/or renew these certifications. Prerequisites
Course participants in the TTS Training Programmust attest to being tobacco free for at least 6 months prior to participating in the program.
CE Credit
The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program has been designated as a jointly accredited activity by Duke Continuing Education and Professional Development for up to 30 CE hours. The Duke-UNC TTS Training Program is accredited to provide AMA PRA Category 1, ANCC, ACPE, and IACET CEUs. More info >>
Program Cost
Cost for the virtual training is $1,350, to be paid by credit card upon registration. (Invoicing arrangements can be made through our office.) Tuition includes access to all online and virtual course sessions, a comprehensive TTS training manual, and CE credit processing. Partial scholarships are available for eligible applicants; see our FAQ page for eligibility requirements.
