This webinar will examine the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance tobacco use treatment in both outpatient and inpatient care settings.
Participants will:

explore AI applications that support identification, engagement, and monitoring of patients who use tobacco, with a focus on tools such as predictive risk modeling, clinical decision support, and automated follow-up

review evidence on the effectiveness and limitations of these technologies in improving treatment outcomes

learn strategies for integrating AI-supported processes into clinical workflows to promote patient-centered counseling, initiate pharmacotherapy, and ensure continuity of care across settings

learn how to use AI to more easily design educational presentations, design patient education materials, and even conduct research studies review evidence on the effectiveness and limitations of these technologies in improving treatment outcomes

Adam Goldstein, MD, MPH
Elizabeth and Oscar Goodwin Distinguished Professor, Director of Tobacco Intervention Programs
Dr. Adam Goldstein is Elizabeth and Oscar Goodwin Distinguished Professor and Director of Departmental Advancement at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Goldstein is the Director of Tobacco Intervention Programs (Tobacco Treatment Program and Tobacco Prevention and Evaluation Program) at the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Goldstein’s research has had extensive local, regional and national influence through print, radio, and television media, with over 200 articles, essays, book chapters, and books, featured in CNN, CBS evening news, the New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. Dr. Goldstein mentors medical students, residents, fellows, and graduate students and has taught internationally on leadership development, substance abuse, health policy, cancer, and clinical medicine in Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Argentina, Chile, Haiti, and Israel. He is married to Dr. Beth Goldstein and they have three children.
The Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program is a collaboration of three leaders in tobacco treatment, education, and research--the Duke Smoking Cessation Program, the University of North Carolina Tobacco Treatment Program, and the North Carolina Division of Public Health--and has been making TTS education accessible to medical, behavioral and public health professionals in North Carolina and beyond since 2016.
The primary aim of the program is to train health professionals to provide evidence-based treatment for tobacco use and dependence. Our comprehensive tobacco treatment specialist training and intensive CE Short Courses provide an impactful education experience for a wide variety of professionals, including clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, public health policy-makers, and more.
